Our typical Tuscan farmhouse, known as Podere Montenero, was built in 1914 and was part of a huge farming estate comprising 20 such houses where farm workers and their families once lived. Cattle and sheep were the main animals raised and at night were kept in the area that is now the living room, dining room and kitchen!

The renovation of the house began in 1981 when Franco purchased it. The house had been vacant since 1960, photos taken in 1981 show the ground floor still full of hay and manure left over from years past.

We have kept the furnishings and interior decoration of the house as authentic as possible to maintain the "farm-family" atmosphere. We have also selected a natural landscape design over a more formal one, again to be more in keeping with the origins of the house. In 1997, Franco planted an additional 60 olive trees for a total of 75, so that the property can rightfully be called a farm once again!

Our house is located in the middle of farmland. Olives, grapes, corn and wheat are some of the local crops. The exquisite landscape, the changing colors and light make this place special for relaxation, reading, writing, painting, hiking, as well as sightseeing.

Living Room: Terra cotta floors, stuccoed walls, brick archways and a cozy fireplace create an authentic Tuscan atmosphere in the living area of our farmhouse. The sofa folds out to a double bed. The stone walls of the house are about 12 inches thick, so the house stays cool in the summer.

The dining and kitchen areas are spacious and inviting.

The kitchen has a new sink, stove, refrigerator and beautiful tile counters. The house is equipped with everything you need to cook-up a true Tuscan feast.

A place to enjoy writing postcards, reading, or studying maps before starting your exploration of the surrounding hills and villages of the region.

The bedroom is kept simple and cosy with essential furniture in tune with the style of the house.

A quiet corner to enjoy silence and mediation or a glass of wine before going to dinner.
